For the better part of thirty years, Fifth Estate has crafted visions of the future. Over the years we have taken the pixels of renders, the sound bites of stakeholders, the bullet points of strategy documents, the essence of national directives, the lines of topographic studies and the hopes of nations to conceptualise tangible newness. More than once, we have taken expanses of desert that have been earmarked for nation-shaping development and populated them with creative expression to guide their all-encompassing transformation – Al Jabal Al Aali [link to case study], for example. In essence, we’re creating a roadmap to embed the infrastructure, define the energy, draw the residents and lure the visitors. It’s a process that essentially gives a place its heart and soul, one that is tangible in every iteration, from digital customer journey mapping to wayfinding assets in a completed development. It’s essentially creating a universe one could step into – a multifaceted, meticulous and immense creative process that has been, at its genesis, decidedly human.
This human-artistry-led approach has seen Fifth Estate establish, engineer and embody fully formed cities that rise from next to nothing – it has been honed, refined and validated time and again, which is why it will always remain. So, when you take this foundation of human artistry and incorporate the ground-breaking capabilities of AI, our ability to take concepts from rationale to reality becomes immense. Our visions of the future can materialise – really detailed, really fast, real.
The scope is enormous and the already realised potential is great, but, for us, there are elements of our creative process that will always remain human. And perhaps this is the creative process for the majority of agencies give or take a few steps or details, but it’s worth noting the humanity of creativity, whether for posterity or simply to reassert our place as purveyors of human-led artistry

How We Reinterpret a Brief
It starts with the brief. A vital step in many of our most influential and enormous projects has been reinterpreting the brief. It is refined and repositioned in order to build a scope of work that accurately reflects the ambition, and draws in the essential contextual details of the project to frame the entirety of the vision and lay the foundation for its nascent arrival. This step of refinement is something we roll through together in real time, compartmentalising the key elements of a project, weighing and upweighting where necessary, reprioritising where essential. This step ensures the many facets of the challenge, the context, the opportunity and the beginnings of the vision can be evaluated by our collective experience and capabilities before we proceed.
From Brainstorm to Hand-Crafted Detail
This is followed by team-wide brainstorming – toying with ideas and attempting to pull loose the threads of inspiration to form creative territories to be mined and tilled for references, visuals and storytelling avenues. Ideas will always start here, sparked by minds, before machines are added to the mix via desk research, solo ideation, reference compiling, language play and vision channelling. Simultaneously, hand drawing, hand writing and hand kneading of these ideas continues, from the sketched logos that are puzzled out with a pencil on paper, teased and played with in endless permutations, painstakingly refined and reengineered before progressing to the digital refinement phase of the creative process; to every word of copy ideated, planned, parcelled out and obsessed over by a human mind, and typed into tabs, documents, presentations and emails by furious fingers thrumming over the keyboard to see every letter find its home; to the hours of conversation and feedback from all corners, at every step of the way where we constantly evaluate and reevaluate, suggest, recalibrate, diverge completely or engage in whoops of joy when a stunning incarnation of a brand’s identity is revealed.
Where AI Visualisation Fits Into Our Process
Over the years, the source of inspiration has remained the same, these processes have remained the same, and so they will always remain. But, as time has progressed and technology has developed at a galloping pace, we now have more tools at our disposal to see inspiration materialise into living, breathing creative expressions our clients can immerse themselves in. We can take the client to the heart of our vision immediately.

Harmonising Human Insight With Ai's Potential
So, as we continue guiding brands to their zenith at the far reaches of the ambitions set at briefing, we will constantly recalibrate, adapt and thrive, moving with agility, curiosity and creativity to help our clients harmonise the human insight and the hand-crafted artistry with the future-building potential of AI. For our team of designers, artists, writers and thinkers revel in ideas, wield our minds and work with our hands to arrive at that spark that fuels the fire, lighting the way to brilliant visions of the future – just as we have done since day one.
